Your mind is the most powerful muscle in your body, and modern life has enabled us to atrophy-the-fucking-shit out of it.

Doomscrolling is literally a word now.

Most people can’t go 5 minutes without picking up their phone.

Why are we like this?

Well, it’s a process that happens gradually. And this is how I decayed my own mind back in college. For most of my life actually.

I could never go anywhere without listening to music.

This was me during Covid.

I literally could not get up out of bed each morning (at 3pm) without my earphones because my mind was so chaotic.

Same with getting the bus to college every day for 3 years straight. I always used music to numb my mind because it was weak.

So, I always needed constant stimulation as my immediate relief.

My medicine.

Having my headphones fully charged 24/7 was a matter of life or death.

Same thing with social media. Can’t eat dinner without a fucking YouTube video.

This is the process of rotting.

And it was all because I wasn’t using my mind properly.

The mind is a muscle that atrophies without proper training.

If you don’t use it you lose it. And this is exactly what is happening to everyone.

Chronic overstimulation has made everything feel dull as fuck. You can’t sit on a bus staring out the window in silence like you did as a kid. You can’t go anywhere without listening to music.

We’ve trained our brains to crave the mental junk food. Cheap hits of stimulation that leave us hungrier than before. But it’s the deeper rewards that truly nourish us. Reading, thinking, creating.

Imagine only ever eating chocolate your entire life, and then tasting a carrot. You’d fucking hate the thing. And this is the exact problem at hand.

A pleasure hierarchy very much exists. Cheap sources serve as junk food for the mind. Low effort, high reward activities are highly likely to cause addiction for this reason.

So what does it mean to unfuck your rotting brain?

It means making the sacrifice. Trading low effort, high reward engagement for high effort, meaningful reward activities.
