You can turn your phone addiction into a calling.

Not by fighting against your screen time.

Nor by restraining or killing it.

But by redirecting it.

Most people consume content because they lack purpose.

You know how the story goes.

It starts with a few reels to help you “relax” from a draining day at work, gym, responsibilities.

Then it turns into an hour a day habit, that must be maintained, to keep your mental fucking sanity.

I’ll never forget being told in secondary school that anything more than 2-3 hours on your phone a day is considered a real addiction. I can’t remember the exact figure, but the entire class was still cooked. We all stood at nearly 4 hours of screentime a day minimum.

If you’re in a similar boat with regard to this metric, fast forward 5 years in your own mind. That’s 1,825 days of 4-hour consumption sessions, or 7,300 hours of letting information flow through one eye and out the other ear.

That’s nearly 43.5 weeks straight, with no sleep, which you could have spent becoming a profound thinker.

If you spend your life scrolling mindlessly you will live a mindless life.

If you don’t learn to leverage your screen time, it will ruin your mind by numbing it for the entire duration of your life. You will never be able to think if you’re always feeling intellectually drained.

You can’t life a meaningful life without the thinking that gets you there.

Your phone addiction is a dormant superpower that needs waking up.

As an individual, you have never had so much opportunity to develop your thinking.

Imagine yourself as Aristotle, Nietzsche, Camus, or Jung. Curating knowledge from all the books you can physically get your hands (or afford).

Your phone has presented you with an opportunity that everyone just blatantly ignores.

You have access to all knowledge at the click of a button.

You can read these profound thinkers’ works and immediately compare, contrast, and question them all within an AI chat.

You can reach almost anyone online and share with them your profound ideas.

Like me hehe

The bottleneck is no longer access to information. It’s what your mind does with all this easily accessible information.

Most people absorb information without might, and never do any real processing. No deep thinking. No encoding. No trying to see the big picture. Zero questioning of how the information fits into their sea of knowledge within their mind.

But what if you consumed like a profound thinker?

When I’m on social media, I’m thinking through the eyes of a creator. Adding to my list of future newsletter topics. Writing down validated ideas to use for my long and short form content. Trying to add everything I consume into what I’m creating in some way.

The reason people say “create more than you consume” is because you cannot create something without thinking. Consumption without creation merely numbs your mind, heart, and soul; it is a soulless process.

You do not need to delete social media.

You just need to use it differently.

You have all this free fuel lying around. Start testing your gears.

I would recommend spending at least a week experimenting at each level, as a general rule of thumb.

You need to figure this shit out for yourself.

Experiment, reflect, and reiterate from week to week.

You can’t expect to keep a problem permanently solved without permanently working on building a bulletproof solution.
